WHAT DID WE LEAVE OUT?

MICROPLASTICS

The majority of toothpastes that are most sold today unfortunately still contain microplastics. These are added to make the product look shiny or they’re used as a cheap ingredient to scrub your teeth.

PLASTIC TUBES

Every year, 20 billion ‘single use’ plastic toothpaste tubes get produced. They are not recycled (= too expensive due to their composition and toothpaste leftovers). About half gets burned, 1.5 billion gets lost in landfills and in our oceans. We don’t know what happens to the rest.

CRUEL ANIMAL TESTING

Animal testing for cosmetics (toothpaste is legally a cosmetic) is banned in the EU. However, outside of the EU it is not. In China, it is even mandatory to have done animal testing before bringing it to the market. So the same companies that comply with the EU ban on animal testing, still do so when selling to other countries.

HARSH CHEMICALS

So, the foam in regular toothpaste are sulfates used in a range of products from industrial cleaners, detergents, soap and so on. Parabens are used as a preservative in regular toothpaste. All these ingredients have indications that they may cause cancer, mouth ulsers, reproductive issues, stomach issues and skin irritation. It just needs to be examined further. Let’s not wait for that!

PROVEN EFFICIENCY!

OPTIMAL PROTECTION

We test our tabs at the Academy for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA). They conclude that the level of fluoride that comes free is identical or higher than that of regular toothpaste. We apply an optimal 1450 parts per million fluorides in our tabs. This protection is further being reinforced by the hydroxyapatite in our tabs.

OPTIMAL RDA VALUE

Abrasives are used in toothpaste to remove dental plaque and surface stains. Smyle has a toothpaste RDA (relative dentin abrasivity) value of 115 (see HERE). All values below 250 are suited for a save life time use of toothpastes, according to the American Dental Association ADA. This standard is also used internationally. An RDA value of 115 is perfectly save and is build in our tab for an abrasivity level suited for medium toothpastes / whitening toothpastes.
